Extracurricular Activities

Ballet Folklorico-
|
The Ballet Folklorico dance
group is open to students from Kinder through 8th Grade. Students
are grouped by appropriate age. Students learn a variety of
Mexican traditional dances representing the heritage of the many
Mexican States and perform at school functions. Students practice
one day a week after school with additional practices prior to
performances. Students who want to become a member of this dance
group must be able to listen to instruction and replicate what is
demonstrated. The cost is $20.00 a month. Meets Mondays 3:45 -
4:45 (Class 1) and Thursdays 3 :45 - 4:45 (Class 2). |

Booster Club - |
The Booster Club is made up of individuals who are
interested in supporting the school but who are not normally
eligible for membership in the PTC. Membership in the Booster Club
costs $30.00 a year. Benefits include a Booster Club "T' shirt,
membership card, invitation to the school Thanksgiving Luncheon,
and the opportunity to be a "reading buddy" with one of our
primary school classes. |

Cheerleaders-
|
Cheerleading is open to students in Kinder through
8th Grade. Cheerleading practice is normally in the afternoon
after the normal school day. The cheerleaders perform at various
school functions and may attend cheerleading camps, competitions,
etc. at the discretion of the cheerleading coach. |

Guitarists - |
The school offers guitar lessons for students in
grades three to eight. These lessons are provided after school.
There is a fee for the guitar lessons. The guitarists play for all
school Masses as wen as at a number of school events throughout
the year. Schedules for guitar lessons are detennined at the
beginning of the school year and are posted in the school
Bulletin. |

National Junior Honor Society - |
Membership in the St. Thomas More Chapter of the
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is both an honor and a
privilege. Membership is by selection and both 7thand 8thgrade
students may be considered for membership. No student has the
right to be selected for membership. According to national rules,
students may not apply for membership in NJHS. The Faculty
Council, consisting of five teachers who have contact with the
students, grants membership to students exhibiting the following
characteristics: scholarship, leadership, character, citizenship
and service. In evaluating the candidates, the Faculty Council
works with specific definitions of these criteria as demonstrated
within our school environment. Students selected for membership
are expected to continue to demonstrate the above-mentioned
qualities. 7th and 8thGrade students are provided with the
criteria for selection at the beginning of each school year.
Students who have received disciplinary actions (Detention
Referral, Suspension, etc. are not eligible for NJHS membership). |

Scouts - |
The school has a Girl Scout Troop on campus.
Meetings are held after school. The Boy Scout Troop is held in
conjunction with the Troop at Saint Pius X Catholic School.
Information about both Troops can be obtained through the School
Office. |
